62-in-1 Card Reader / Hub: The Only Thing it Can’t Do is Pleasure You (Or Can It?) [Gadgets]

This 62-in-1 USB hub can read just about any memory card you can throw at it, and maybe some that don’t even exist. Seriously, I had no idea that there were even this many formats out there. It also features an internal 3.5″ connect bay, USB, Firewire and SATA slots, and audio in / out. And the best part is that it only costs $39.99 —which seems a little too good to be true. Flashlight DVR Perfect for Spies [Gadgets]

The new Flashlight DVR Compact Digital Video Recorder from Swann is not the first time we have come across a flashlight with a built-in DVR, but it is certainly the most technologically advanced version to date. The device features a camcorder, still camera, built-in mic, high strength alloy case, and night vision technology.
It is also capable of in MPEG4 at 640×480, and it will give you about 8 hours of QVGA recording on a 1GB SD card (4GB max). If that wasn’t enough there is even a panic siren that will alert others that you are in trouble. All of this can be yours for only $399, which is a bit pricey unless you are part of a trained security team, or a really dedicated pervert. [Product Page via Bachelor Guy via DVICE]

How Much Would it Cost to Make a Life-Size Working Gundam? [Gundam]

A full-scale Gundam robot is one thing, but how much would it actually cost to build one that could actually walk? According to an estimate published on the SciencePortal website run by the Japan Science and Technology Agency, the total cost for parts alone would be $725,000,000. That figure would not include labor, fancy weaponry, or any flying capabilities. The whole shebang would be powered by and IBM Blue Gene supercomputer and 30 giant 400KW motors.
Taking a look at the materials list, I have a hard time believing that this would actually work if it were built. And, in all likelihood, the parts would cost significantly more than the estimates. So, it appears that Gundam fans will have to wait a little while longer to get their own 60 foot robot killing machine.

MP3 Jacket With Shoulder Speakers: May Double as a Life Preserver [Clothing]

Jackets that incorporate MP3 players are nothing new, but my guess is that only the MP3 Lederhosen and Hunting Jacket can compete with this “Smart Jacket” in terms of sheer weirdness. Actually, MP3 Lederhosen is far weirder than this, but I digress…
Basically, the Smart Jacket is a vest that features built-in shoulder speakers, a set of player controls and a secure pouch to hold your MP3 player while in use. It also looks a hell of a lot like a life vest, and the “annihilation orange” color scheme isn’t what I would call attractive. However, it was designed with joggers in mind, so there is a safety component involved here. Not sure if it is worth it though. Pricing information has not been released. Wiimote Lightsaber May Be Axed: Nintendo is Way Too Overprotective [Rumor]

Although there has been no official confirmation as of yet, it appears that Nintendo will not allow Lucas Arts to develop a Wiimote Lightsaber because it is worried about injuries that may result from “bat like” attachments. While I understand Nintendo’s predicament, they are going to have to stop changing our diapers sometime. Just slap a warning on the thing and cover it in NERF or something. In the meantime, interested parties could always settle for the wide assortment of unlicensed products that will undoubtedly pop up. [MaxConsole via WiiNintendo via Kotaku]

Keychain-Sized Camera Mount Helps Capture Those Special Moments [Photography]

According to the manufacturer’s website, the Manfrotto 797 Modo Pocket Camera Mount is billed as “the worlds smallest tripod,” which is a bit disconcerting seeing how it only has two legs. Nonetheless, it appears to be a cool little device. The hinged design allows you to adjust camera angles, and it is small enough to be attached to a keychain. Unfortunately, if you want to get your hands on one, it appears that living in France is where it is at. On the plus side, Manfrotto does list the device on their website, so it may be possible to track it down in the US. [Product Page and Manfrotto via Technabob]
