Brando’s USB Mini Mouse Speaker is a great little portable speaker, which connects via 3.5mm stereo jack to any sound output. The speaker charges via an included USB cable and it is sure to bring the house down with the thumping 2W output. If you are worried you won’t look the image of cool with the USB Mini Mouse, put those ludicrous notions aside, it comes with a neck strap so you can pimp Flavor Flav styles effortlessly. Phew! The only thing is, we were hoping our $14.00 would get us standard mouse functionality, too. Perhaps the omission is a slight technical oversight by Brando? [Brando via Geek Alerts]

If you were impressed with OCZ’s latest 2.5-inch SSDs, chances are you’ll be thoroughly enamored by InnoDisk’s FiD 2.5-inch SATA 10000. ‘Course, it’s certainly not the first 128GB solid state disc we’ve seen, but it does boast a rugged metal enclosure and promises sustained read / write rates of up to 110Mbps / 90Mbps. Reportedly, this SLC NAND flash drive will see its way out to samplers later this month, and it should start shipping in volume sometime during Q2.

Armari’s eXtreme Concept Prototype (XCP) super computer is made of some 100 uniquely designed parts, is either cooled by liquid nitrogen, liquid flurocarbon immersion or thermoelectric cooling and phase change, depending on the model’s configuration and has the ability to run 24/7 without needing to shutdown. The XCP will happily function through a temperature range of -110°C to 90°C and being built on Intel’s Skulltrail platform, the XCP happily packs quite some power under its Lost in Space-esque hood.
Currently, the XCP is at concept stage, but the final production model is expected to house two quad-core CPUs (3.2GHz) on a motherboard that supports four graphics cards. Nice. A TUAW reader has managed to spot an iPod onboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour, which is currently floating around in a giant vacuum. The hawk-eyed reader spotted the iPod from official NASA photos, which showed the device, barely visible, through a cabin window. Interestingly, iPods cannot be taken into space willy-nilly. In fact, the usual lithium battery must be replaced with specially designed alkaline alternatives to ensure safety standards are met. That seems like a lot of planning to us, which is part of the reason we won’t be leaving planet Earth anytime soon. Another equally valid reason is because we are not qualified astronauts. Norhtec is set to release a UMPC Eee competitor, called the Gecko, which will run Linpus Linux Lite. The new OS is specifically designed for ultra portable platforms, but the Gecko will not be bound to Norhtec’s operating system of choice, as other distributions of Linux and Windows will also be supported. The Gecko will retail for somewhere south of $300, have a 1GHz Via C7M ULV CPU, an optional PATA hard disk and what appears to be a 7-inch display. A formal announcement is expected to “happen soon,” but in the meantime, a shot of the Linpus UI should tide you over. Jump for your UMPC Linux fix.

There’s just one, fairly ironic, flaw to the otherwise totally lovable red light cameras that adorn Dallas: they work too well. Turns out the cams have curtailed red light infractions by 50 percent, which in turn has put a budget crunch on City Hall. The city is now considering stopping its planned rollout of more cameras, or shutting down the cameras on a rotating basis — upkeep when off is next to nothing, but the city pays $3,799 per month per online camera to its service provider. That sounds like quite a spendy broadband bill, but we’re not the experts here. Just remember kids, your government wants what’s best for you, and what’s best for you is a well-funded government, alright?

MacGeneration has spotted a new Airport Express unit listed at the Swiss online Apple Store. The updated router looks identical to the older Airport Express, however, the specification for the refreshed model lists 802.1n wireless network support. The Swiss variety shows a one week ship time and Macrumors is reporting a reliable source informs them of a $99 price point, as well as an ETA of sometime next week for a Stateside release—anyone taking bets for not Tuesday? Everyone remembers ICQ, the first widely-used instant messaging application that’s all but dead in most of the world now. The Israeli software company that developed the suite before it was purchased by AOL has just partnered with a big Israeli pharmacy company called CTS to release this ICQ toothpaste, which our tipster claims will “help P2P communication (person to person) while reducing bad breath.” Weird, yet really really cool. On a related note, I’ve got a low six-digit ICQ number. How long is yours? [Thanks Nir!]

Can’t leave the comforts of your speedy, reliable network, but aren’t ready to carry the brick-like Voyager to appease that touchscreen hankering? Verizon might finally have a solution with the LG VX9700, which just passed the FCC. The above leaked image of the phone shows it to be similar to LG’s Prada phone, but apparently there’s no designer branding to be had here — just like AT&T’s upcoming Prada-inspired LG Vu. Other than that, erm, innovative menu, rumored infos include a 3.2 megapixel camera, micro USB, microSDHC, and an on-screen QWERTY keyboard for text input. Word is the phone was slated for the end of the month, but now might be delayed until April. We suppose we’ll be finding out soon enough.
